September 27 is National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NGMHAAD). NGMHAAD encourages conversation about and actions around preventing HIV and highlights the virus’ disproportionate impact on gay, bisexual, and same-gender loving men. Black gay, bisexual, and same-gender loving men are more affected by HIV than any other group in the U.S.
- In 2019, gay, bisexual, and same-gender loving men accounted for 26% (9,421) of the 36,801 new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. and dependent areas.
- For every 100 Black gay, bisexual, and same-gender loving men, 83 knew their HIV status.
- In 2019, an estimated 235,400 Black gay, bisexual, and same-gender loving men in the U.S were living with HIV.
