Voting is not the only way to engage in our democracy; however, it is foundational. The party with the majority sets the agenda and determines the rules for how policies become law. Ensure your voter registration information is updated and accurate to maximize the power of your vote.
Check your registration status before every election. Remember, elections are happening yearly, not just during presidential election cycles.
Register or update your voter registration if at least one of the following is true:
- You’ve never registered to vote.
- You’ve recently had your right to vote restored (check your state and local laws).
- You’ve changed your name.
- You’ve changed your signature or don’t remember how you signed your name when you registered.
- You’ve moved or changed mailing addresses, including if you want to vote in the elections where you attend college.
- You’ve changed your political party.
- You forgot to sign and date your last registration form.
- Your state or local elections office purged you from the voter rolls with or without your consent.
