Words Matter HIV Toolkit

The Words Matter HIV Stigma Toolkit is a blueprint for facilitating what can be uncomfortable and, at times, difficult, but life-saving conversations.

The toolkit invites each of us to consider three things:

1. How do we create safe spaces where people feel comfortable talking about HIV specifically and holistic health and wellness more
generally?

2. How does everyday language contribute to stigma and the disproportionate rates of HIV that impact the Black community?

3. How can we replace negative and harmful language with affirming and healing language that has the power to strengthen communities and ultimately end the HIV epidemic?

The Words Matter HIV Toolkit is updated each year to reflect emerging culturally inclusive practices. The Words Matter Campaign leverages networks committed to the health and well-being of Black communities to disseminate and support the use of the toolkit.
